Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Irregular Heartbeat, Racing Heartbeat, Numbness In The Left Hand?
I was placed on a diuretic for about 5 days and had bad side effects, i.e. irregular heart beat, racing heart beat, numbness in the left hand. I have been off of the medication for about 3 days. How long before the numbness goes away? Thank you so much. David Jones
Symptoms of numbness and a feeling of the heartbeat are not normal and are not due to diuretics. Numbness of the hand could be due to cervical spondylosis or nerve compression. The feeling of an abnormal heartbeat could be due to stress and anxiety. Rule out the possibility of irregular heartbeats. EKG is the only test that could prove the irregular heartbeat and without this, it cannot be proved. Just to clear the doubt of irregular heartbeat, EKG is advisable.
