What Causes Irregular Menstrual Bleeding Along With Abdominal Cramps?

I have been having a period now for like 6 weeks, it is very irregular I ll be not bleeding and then out of the blue I have this huge flow kind of like a whoosh and then nothing and then whoosh again and now I have extreme cramps it feels like it did when I had a miscarriage that is the only time I can think of that I ever had pin like this. I m not pregnant, I m 49 could it be menopause?

irregular menstrual cycle is typical from ages 45-55 during menopause. It could be related to this. The periods you do have may be more significant in amount due to the irregularity over time period of months. This can also be the first indication that there is a problem with the lining of your uterus called the endometrium. Because your ongoing period and the time frame this has been going on, consider seeking medical attention from obGyn or family doctor and having vaginal exam and/or transvaginal ultrasound to evaluate the uterus and rule out any concerning pathology like masses or cancers.
