What Causes Irregular Menstruation, Spotting, Heavy Bleeding And Odor With Implanon?

I have been on the implanon for a year and a half now. My menstruals have been completely out of control. They past month i spotted for one week, had a heavy menstrual for the following week, and after that the rest of the month i have had either pink or brown discharge, with a foul odor. Im not sure if it s because of the implanon or that i might have an infection. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Irregular menstrual cycles is likely due to the effects of Implanon. However, foul-smelling discharge is concerning for possibility of vaginal infection. Please be advised to follow up with your ObGyn to undergo vaginal swab and culture to identify possible infection. Treatment will depend on the type of infection if present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
