What Causes Irregular Periods?

hi i had a regular periods upto my age 50 and it stopped for about 8 months then. After that, again periods started regularly once in two months and it is still in regular terms till now. Now i am 55. Now, since two periods, bleeding will be for more than 15 days. It is not so heavy bleeding little and some clots twice a day. I am healthy, not any kind of tiredness nothing. So, my question is Is this normal or should i show this to doctor, or not please advise me.

Hello,

You need to take the proper clinical assessment by a specialist, get a pap smear, blood counts and urinalysis, a sonogram of the pelvis preferably in the transvaginal route. Hormone assays are also preferred since it is also likely that you could be experiencing peri-menopause. Maintain a healthy weight, proper nutrition, and avoid stress. You may need hormones for a couple of courses. Styptics help to control the bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam
