What Causes Irregular Raised Heart Beat During Sleep?

Hi,My husband s heart beats very loud during sleep. I can hear loud and inconsistent poundings and I can even feel them when I m myself in bed. Is this normal?I may add that he is 24 years old and undergoing a lot of stress since he is in medschool.

Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist 's  Response
HI
this can be due to stress or really related to some cardiac problem.

if he complains of palpitations, chest pain , any shortness of breath on exertion i would suggest you to go for an ECG with a cardiac evaluation.

please check out for his haemoglobin levels, electrolytes, sugar, & thyroid
levels.
please advise him to destress himself.

if all the above tests are normal, simple anxiolytic drugs added with nonspecific beta blockers in low doses will help him out.

all the best
take care
