What Causes Irritating And Dryness In Skin Around Mouth?

my wife and i were recently back in the united states. she was bitten by numerous mosquitos while there, and several bites remain, over 7 weeks later. these bites remain irritated and there is still discharge coming from them. recently she began to develop red and irritated skin around her mouth with dry, cracking lips. are the two symptoms products of a common cause, and, if not, does either sound familiar on its own? thanks so much!

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that along with redness, itching and irritation around the mouthalong with dry and cracking lips that can be due to chapped lips seems to be due to Perioral Dermatitis..
It can be caused due to:
-Disturbances in microbial flora over the skin.
-Bacterial infection.
-Nasal and topical steroids.
-Flouridated toothpastes.
-Harsh chemical cosmetics.
-Poor facial hygiene.
-Hormonal imbalances etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and advise you to apply topically ointments containing Doxycycline, Metronidazole..
You can also be advised oral intake of erythromycin..
Ointments containing Azaelic acid,Pimecrolimus etc can help..
Avoid any skin cosmetic or steroid ointments..
Avoid excess sun exposure, use gel based sunscreen lotion.
You can apply thick coat of Petroleum jelly over the lips for lubrication and it helps in locking moisture and reduce dryness..
