What Causes Itchiness In The Genital Area And Anal Bleeding While On Clindamycin?

I was prescribed clindimiacin twice in January by the dentist for an abcessed tooth. Now I have itching in the genital area as well as a reacurring sore in the anal region that leads to painful bowel movements and causes a little bleeding. Could this be a side affect from the medicine. It didn t occure until after taking the medicine.

Hello,

With such presentations in my clinic, I would first rule out a viral infection known as herpes simplex by a clinical examination, only if confirmed, I may recommend my cases a full course of antiviral like Acyclovir. If secondary bacterial infection is present I may add Cefixime with a probiotics like Lactobacillus. For itching usually I recommend Levocetrizine.

Regarding Clindamycin, I may say that it is not due to that you think it has no such side effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
