What Causes Itching And Bruising On Skin?

Occasionally, I will get an itch on the outside of my thigh on my left leg (usually when I'm wearing jeans), it's an abnormal itch that feels sort of like a bruise while I scratch it. Almost immediately afterwards, a red/purple bruise appears. Today it is red. What could this be and should I be concerned? Thank you.
