Itchy labia, when cleaning there s dirt built-up. No discharge or smell. Pubis is trimmed not shaved. Shower everyday and wash front to back whenever i pee or poo. Hvnt had sex in years. Menopaused 4yrs ago.. Dont use perfume and washed clothes with same detergent over the years. This labial itch is driving me crazy. Diagnosis and remedy?
Hello, Postmenopausal vaginal or labial itching can be due either to dryness of the local region or secondary to infection. If the cause is an infection, appropriate treatment should be given through local and systemic anti-fungal treatment. If the cause is dryness caused by lack of hormones after menopause, hormone supplement may be thought of. Symptomatic treatment with an antihistamine also is necessary to relieve the itchy feeling. A proper speculum exam by a specialist, swabs taken from the vagina and cervix and a pap smear, urinalysis, blood tests to rule out general infections and abnormal blood glucose levels are necessary. Hope this helps.
