I am 40 yrs. old. After I finished ironing my uniformity was putting the iron, ironing board and starch spray away. As I was putting them away, I put the edge of the iron on right forearm and it left approximately a one half inch burn. The burn is heeling with red bumps on the heeling area and not around the area. The area itches at times. It just noticed today. What is this?
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
The bumps that you notice at the site of healing are most likely excessive scar tissue i.e hypertrophic or keloid scar. These usually develop as a result of an excessive tissue reparative response leading on to a raised scar. Keloids are usually itchy. Keloids may extend beyond the margin of the initial wound with finger like projections. I would suggest you to visit a dermatologist for a confirmatory diagnosis. Treatment of keloidal Or hypertrophic scaring is with silicone gel sheet pressure dressing. Intralesional injections of triamcinolone acetonide is also a treatment option; helps degrade excessive collagen tissue of raised scar and flattens them.
