What Causes Itching On Scalp And Other Hair Areas?
I just answered the questions about itching with no rash and thyroid disorder was suggested. I have hashimotos autoimmune thyroid disease and take synthroid and my ths results are around 1.0. I have itching on my scalp and other personal area where there is hair. I don t scratch because you can t do that in public but it feels so irritating. I have considered my other meds - Allegra, topamax, provigil, and Lipitor as the cause as well as heat or some type of mild fungal rash that just does not show up on my pale skin. How could it be connected to thyroid? I ve tried creams, hydrogen peroxide, even baby ointment. Any suggestions?
Hi. As per your case history of itching on scalp and hairy areas, my treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply an antifungal plus steroid lotion like candid-b once at night. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for itching. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral antifungal taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
