What Causes Itching On The Back That Is Painful?

A few days ago I experienced terrible itching on the next side of my upper back; it s becoming painful and very uncomfortable. I m 30 years old and think that it may be shingles. It s spreading everyday and there are clusters of sores towards the center of my back all the way to my shoulder blade. Any ideas of what it could be and is it contagious?

Hi. Do you have fluid filled blisters too? Is it restricted to one side of body, say right? If so, you should seek immediate help of a dermatologist. Antivirals might be needed. Meanwhile, apply calamine lotion and take sedating antihistamine like hydroxyzine. Also take care not to rupture blisters. Hope it answers all your queries.
