What Causes Itching Sensation On The Back, Arms And Neck?
Hello. I am asking for my mother. She is 76 years old, 4 ft. 10 in. and weights73 pounds. She has advanced osteoporosis, arthritis and sculosis. She also has hyper thyroid disease and was positive for herpes but its levels are under control. She has been experiencing severe itching mostly on her back, arms, back of neck and chest but also it starting to go to part of her legs. We didn t get a straight answer from her doctor when we asked if it could be her thyroid disease and medication. She is going to the dermatologist next week is there a product to relief her itching you would recommend?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of itching on back and arms, my treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harshit Bhachech
