A family member was diagnosed with scabies, whole family was treated. Family member is fine no more anything. I have continued after every precaution/permetherin/cleaning etc to feel like I have a crawling feeling on my scalp, and eyebrows... everything indicates demodex and now 4 weeks later and while currently on prednisone feel itchy, flaky skin on the scalp. Help is it demodex
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I will keep a possibility of seborrheic dermatitis. Itching and flaking is part of seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis can involve the scalp as well as the face, with itching, scaling and a faintly erythematous rash. If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to use an OTC antifungal shampoo, daily or every alternate days, for scalp involvement. Nizoral is 2% ketoconazole and would be suitable. It is available OTC. For eyebrow involvement I would have asked you to apply topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream, twice daily for 2 weeks. Topical steroids are prescription drugs. I would suggest that seek an appointment with a dermatologist for a confirmatory diagnosis as well as appropriate treatment.
