What Causes Itchy Painful Knot On Inner Foot In Child?

Hello, My 3 year old has a itchy knot on the inner side of her foot between her arch and the ball of her foot. When I put pressure on her toes and stretch out her muscles in her arch, the area turns white that is affected. It is round and about the size of a nickel. There are no outward signs of any injury. She had Gymnastics about 5 hours ago but no obvious injuries. She says it itches and hurts. I can press on it without her pulling away however. Any ideas? To me it feels like a boil or knot or something similar.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

It sounds like a plantar fibroma. This is when you get a knot of tissue in the fascia/ligaments that run through your foot. However, that's not particularly common in little kids. It could be a plantar wart - unlike regular skin warts, plantar warts grow into the skin making a ball instead of on top of the skin. Although that would have a mark or dryness visible on the skin of the underside of the foot.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
