What Causes Itchy Rash On Scrotum?

Hello, I have a strange itchy rash on a very specific spot on the right side of my scrotum, around where comes into contact with my leg. There are no bumps but the red skins looks particularly shiny. I have not ever had such a thing, nor have I been with a new partner in the last two years. What do you recommend?

Hello,

Itchy rash on the scrotum on the right side of the scrotal sac where it meets the legs, it can be jock itch. Jock itch commonly occurs in the crotch because the area there is warm and moist that invites fungal infections, bacterial infections, and rashes. Jock itch is a fungal infection so you can apply ointment clotrimazole on the affected area, or you can apply any other ointment like 'Ring guard' that contains miconazole is effective for jock itch.

If it is resistant you can take a course of antifungal medicines orally. Take care of your hygiene and wear loose fitting cotton clothes. The healing will take about 2-3 weeks. In case the skin there has become thick and leathery, it may be suggestive of eczema. It will take a longer time to get better.

Get clinically examined by a Urologist, as if confirmed you will be treated with corticosteroids orally or by injections. You can apply ointments containing corticosteroids on the area affected. Treatment with ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation therapy may be recommended if required,

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
