What Causes Itchy Skin Rashes While On Pravastatin?

I started taking Pravastatin Sodium 40 mg about 25 day ago for high cholesterol. After about 8-10 days I started having a rash and deep skin itching for about 10 days before going to the doctor. The rash centered around the top of my arms (shoulder area, my neck, extended to my back and around my waist where there is elastic.I have been prescribed steroids for the itching which keeps me comfortable for now. Note: I am 63, healthy except for high cholesterol and has never had any type of itch like this before. Is this possibly a side effect of Pravastatin

Hi,

Pravastatin is a drug commonly prescribed for reducing the blood cholesterol levels. It is often associated with rashes and itching as an adverse effect.

I wouldn't be very much worried if the reaction/itching is not worsening. Continue taking the drug as per your physician's advise and you should do fine.

Thank you for asking this question. Wish you a long and healthy life.
