What Causes Itchy Vagina?

I am a 52 year old female, married for 28 years. On Tuesday of this past week I had a very itchy vagina, I thought that it could be due to soap irritation. The itch diminished. Today after my shower, I noticed a sore spot on the front of my vagina, if I separate the skin on the labia, it is toward the very front. And I discovered a growth. It is about the size of a pea and it is sticking out. It is sore.

I would have wished to know if you are sexually active and if the sore spot you are mentioning looks like an ulcer or a peanut sized swelling or grape like, if that is what you meant by ' growth ' and if it hurts and if you have associated burning sensation when you pee or any vaginal discharge.
A painful ulcer can indicate a sexually transmitted infection like herpes, soft chancre . And painless ulcer could ba a hard chancre. Or it could be cystic swellings of glands of vestibule ( are inside labia) which may or may not have been infected. Apart from these, as you mentioned it as growth, it may require a biopsy to determine what exactly it is.
Because the possibilities are numerous, I suggest you see your OB/GYN or GUM ( genito urinary medicine ) doctor for appropriate evaluation and care.
