What Causes Jaw Locking With Aching?

Hello, My jaw sometimes locks down. It comes and goes but mostly ive found its durning the night our after ive chewed or eaten something. It can last from a second to well over 10 mins. On a normal day it always feels like i've chewed gum for a long period of time. Its just ache. I haven't had gym in over a year because of it. My jaw is unusually square for a female and the muscle along the jaw line are over developed. Is this something normal or should i go and have it looked at?

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
The problem with chewing or locking jaw is because of the disc displacement in the temporomandibular joint. This can occur secondary to over load on the jaw joint or bruxism or stress.
Consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. If i am your treating doctor , i would have suggested you to take a radiograph like OPG and TMJ view and advised to take piroxicam tablets.
avoid biting hard things, do not open your jaw too wide.
Give hot fomentation over the joint. The increase in the size of the muscle is because of the masseter muscle hypertrophy secondary to bruxism.
I hope my answer will help you. Take care.
