I am 21 years old and was diagnosed with juvenile melanoma when I was born. At 6 years old they removed a mole from my arm over the course of two surgeries and said that I was cancer-free. I ve had many mole since grow around my body including the area they remove the mole from but my concern is a large mole on my face that has recently began growing a pus pocket every few months - and yes it grows a lot of hair. This time the mole has become more painful, has a swollen spot underneath it, and is now inhibiting me from doing things such as eating or talking without discomfort. The doctors in my area have been known to misdiagnose regularly, so thought I d ask here before making a trip out of town.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Going by the symptoms you have described here, you seem to have a skin infection where the mole is. Swelling, pus formation and pain are signs and symptoms of an infected mole rather than a melanoma. I would suggest you to take a course of an oral antibiotic, e.g., either Amoxicillin or Cephalexin thrice daily for a week. In addition, I suggest you to apply a topical antibiotic, e.g., either Neosporin ointment or Mupirocin 2% ointment, twice daily for a week.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S.
