What Causes Kidney Dysfunction?

I am 66, 120 pounds and in good health. Nurse for my Cardiologist (have seen him for years for a racing heart..not heart disease) just called and said my recent blood work showed kidney level was 17 and it s supposed to be over 60 and suggested I see primary doc right away....which I will do. Not sure what score she was talking about..maybe the GFR since that is supposed to be greater then 59. Also my AC1 was 6.0 and gluscose was 107. Anyway, after I got off the phone I remembered I had severe diarrhea from something I ate (at least I thought it was from that) the night before my 7:30 am fasting blood test. Could that have made the kidney score low?

Hello,

from the result your cardiologist told you it seems like it is the GFR as its the one kidney result that if lower means its worse. If its 17 you will need urgent investigation by a nephrologist (kidney specialist). It is unlikely to have happened with one attack of diarrhoea. Confirm the result with your doctor ASAP and get investigated urgently if it is correct.

Kind Regards
