General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your persistent knee pain can be due to injury of internal structures of knee like meniscus or ligaments. A physical examination by an orthopedician will be helpful to rule out this. In case of positive signs you may need to do X ray followed by MRI if necessary. Mild to moderate injuries can be managed conservatively. But if severe then diagnostic arthroscopy and correction is advised. You can manage knee pain by giving ice pack application, giving knee immobilization by wearing knee braces for short periods and quadriceps strengthening exercises. NSAIDs like ibuprofen can be taken in case of more pain and inflammation which is not addicting. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
