Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had knee pain practically from the time I was born, 16 now. Female. And it only comes on around night. Its kind of a mild pain, but lasts for extended periods of time. It gets to the point where I cannot sleep. I ve been told its growing pains, but its located behind the knee cap. I m not very active, so its not an injury. The only way I ve found relief is keeping my leg straight, but this can be difficult because it makes it hurt worse for the time being. If I bend my leg it offers little relief now but just makes it worse later on.
I have seen lot of patients with such complains and it is called chondromalacia patallae. It is softening of cartilage of knee cap, it can happen without any obvious cause, and may be triggered by knee exercises or running. I have following suggestions for you. first get MRI of the knee to confirm the diagnosis, and if it shows same conditon then : 1. Static quadriceps exercises. 2. Tablet Brufen for pain relief 3. Tablet Dicerin daily. 4. Avoid stairs and cross leg sitting, and running.
