General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. From the treatment given your sister seems to have breast cancer. But it needs confirmation( by histopathology report of the tumor removed ),because cancerous tumor is not painful unless secondarily infected. Staging of cancer- - Stage 1- Tumor is 2cm size & has not spread anywhere. 5 years survival rate is - 100% - Stage 2- Tumor is 2 cm in size & has spread to 1-3 axillary/ mammary lymph nodes or invaded in breast tissue 5 years life expectancy is-93% - Stage 3-The tumor is less than 5cm in size- has affected 5-7 axillary/mammary lymph glands but does not have distant spread. 5 years life expectancy is-72% - stage 4-The tumor that has spread distant from breast- 5 years life expectancy is- 22% Thanks.
