What Causes Knots In Sub-scapular Muscles ?

I have knots that collect in subscapular muscles and i get relief with deep tissue massage. Lately I have been experiencing tingling with numbness in arms and hands relieved by deep tissue massage concentrated in in the underarm area laterally. I am a healthy active 52 yr old who works out with weights as well as attending cycle classes for good cardio workout. I spend a lot of time in a car teaching kids how to drive... what do these knots consist of? And why do they keep returning? Also I noticed several sm. marble like knots on the bottom of my foot, seem like they are attached to the tendon. What can I do to conteract these reoccuring problematic knots?

Hello,

You have discomfort due to knots in the subscapular muscles. The commonest cause of such knots are when a muscle gets irritated or injured by a repetitive motion or lifting, overuse, aging or trauma. Damage or irritation of one or more tendons or muscles can also cause such knots.

Sometimes, vitamin D and magnesium deficiency may cause return of such symptoms. Other causes are poor posture, stress and tension. History of joint problems and injuries may aggravate such symptoms. Avoid sedentary lifestyle and addictions if any. You are suggested to take appropriate amount of vitamin D regularly. Include food rich in magnesium in your regular diet. Take balanced diet & do regular exercises.

You are also experiencing numbness and tingling, it is indicative of nerve impingement, compression or developing neuropathy. Take food rich in vitamin B12. You also have knots in the bottom of your foot. It commonly occurs due to small tears in your plantar fascia due to injury or trauma. They can also be caused by soft-tissue swelling, sacs of fluid or scars during healing. You can apply corn-caps or corn-plasts for relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
