What Causes Large Bumps On The Scalp?

I am a 45yr old african american. I have shaved my head for several years. Within the last year I have developed large bumps filled with blood and puss. I've been to the doctor and the medicine they given me makes the blisters,. bumps larger. What can I do and what could they be? there are about 5 of them should I be concerned?
