What Causes Left Abdomen Pain Intermittently?

Hello, I am a 37 yr old woman. Over the past 2 weeks I have experienced ~4 episodes of sudden, stabbing pain in my left abdomen. The pain ranges from moderate to severe and, thankfully, only lasts for less than a couple of minutes. The episodes have occurred at various times of the day (never at night) in various situations (i.e. while cleaning, while driving, while sitting at my desk). My family has a history of fibroids and other gynaecological issues. Should I arrange to see my OB or General Practitioner?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
You should see a General Surgeon.
The reason being your problem is suggestive of the following:
This is not definitely related to obstetric or Gynecology.
This may be due to intestinal spasm due to intestinal infection or some allergy , intolerance to something or just a stomach upset and nothing serious.
This can also be due to ureteric colic on the same side.

I would advise you the following:
Routine blood, urine and stool tests.
Ultrasonography;
A course of 5 day antibiotic and metronidazole, probiotic - see the response and if the symptoms recur, get further investigations.
