What Causes Left-sided Numbness On The Face While On Levofloxacin?
I have numbness or paralysis on the left side of my face. I just finished a 7 day treatment of levofloxacin for pneumonia around the 22ND.then had a bad headache the next day.since then I have had this numbness or paralysis on the left side. No movement of my mouth and eye. My eye is very watery and irritated.
As per your complain numbness of left side of face and lip along with no movement of mouth and eye can be due to a condition known as Facial Nerve Palsy or Bell's Palsy. It occurs due to disturbances related to seventh cranial nerve known as Facial Nerve, that supplies muscles of face.
It can be due to compression of nerve with any major artery or at times tumor formation compressing the nerve. Nerve trauma or viral infection can also be a cause. Watery and irritated eye can be due to difficulty in closing the eye causing irritation and tearing. I would suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment will be done accordingly.
Resolution of the cause can help in reversing the symptoms. The medications that is steroids and antibiotics are appropriate and along with it you should also do alternate warm and cool compresses and take Vitamin Supplements.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks and regards, Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
