What Causes Left-sided Shoulder Pain While On Metformin?
My Doctor prescribed Merformin for me. However, when I take it and then eat a meal, it seems to cause intense pain in my left shoulder blade ( like a muscle spasm). The pain last anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour and then subsides leaving no after affects. My Doctors have performed other tests and found nothing wrong. I have tried Januvia and found some relief. However, the Januvia is quite a bit more expensive than the Metformin. When I have someone press on the spot where the spasm is taking place it is more painful; this gives me reason to believe that it is not my heart. Is it possible that this painful spasm coult be a side effect of the Merformin?
Unusual muscle pain or spasm has been reported following metformin. It may be as well due to statin group of drug,if you are also taking for cholesterol problem. You can howevr undergo serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) to rule out any myosotis element.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
