Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been sedentary for quite a while and now feel well enough to start walking again. However, I am having severe leg pain when I walk. I am a 55 year old female with diabetes. Do I just need to tough it out till I get used to walking again or is this something serioius that I need to discuss with my doctor?

the leg pain might be because of back or hamstring muscle tightness or calf muscle tightness. you first check few things 1-bend forward and stand do you feel pain in your back 2-cough a bit and again check for back pain 3- liet straight on your back and raise your affected leg and check how far you can bring the leg up if having pain at 30 degree its back issue and if at 60 degree its nerve involvement can be sciatica and if at 90 degree pain muscle tightness till den apply hot pack on leg for 15 mins and do whole body stretch and ankle toe movement both in lie position straight on your back. Wear good foot wear cushion heel and avoid walking for few days lot of pressure can increase pain. discus with your doc might you need xrays for back.
