What Causes Light Menstrual Bleeding?

Hello, my name is Celia and I m 23 years old. Three weeks ago my boyfriend and I had sex two days before my minstrel cycle, it came but was really light, which is abnormal. For the last week I have been feeling really nauseous all day, tender breasts, easily tire and have had a slight discharge from my vagina. I m wondering if I could possibly have gotten pregnant. I have a history of miscarriages, lost one at 5 months and at the beginning of the year lost one at just over a month.. and my question is, even though my next cycle doesn t start for another 12 days, should I go ahead and call and try to get an appointment with my obgyn or should I wait? He has told me in the past that if I where to be I d be a high risk as my body doesn t produce certain things needed for the baby and he d have to closely monitor it...I just don t want to go in too early if I am and we not do what s needed to keep the baby.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Your symptoms could be related to either early pregnancy or a possible infection caused due to the sexual intercourse (not necessarily a sexually transmitted infection). Although in my opinion this is more likely to be due to the sexual contact, and as you did experience a period (although light) it could still be a period and not an implantation bleed.

Please report to your doctor only after 2 weeks or so, it would be too early to find anything; but you could conduct a home pregnancy test if at all your period is delayed, using an early morning urine sample.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
