What Causes Lightheadedness, loss Of Appetite, hard Time Sleeping And Slight Headaches?

My dad was a very active person. Plays tennis once a wk,gym twice a wk,fishing once a wk,goes diving, etc. On fathers day, he Felt very lightheaded and had no appetite. We took him toER. Vitals were good so sent him home. Since then,he cannot do any of the activies he used to do. His appetite is same as my 5 yr old grandson. Neurologist doesnt see anything on MRI but he is getting worse everyday. He still feels lightheaded, loss of appetite, hard time sleeping, slight headaches but no one seems to know what is wrong.

Hi,

From the history you have shared, it looks like your dad had never had a thorough cardiac check up. Light-headedness with loss of appetite can be an indication of developing cardiac problem that may lead to heart attack or stroke.

Get him physically checked to rule out any liver enlargement or developing cardiac problem. Let him have CBC, Lipid function tests, Urinalysis, ECG, Echo, CT, MRI done. Other factors that cause such symptoms are gastritis, low blood sugar, low blood pressure, dehydration, side effects of certain medications.

He should take adequate water, soups, juice & rest. Stay away from physical & emotional stress. Let him have home made food that is not oily or spicy. In the meantime he can take antacids, PPI's like Pantoprazole/Rabeprazole or enzymes like Aristozyme to boost up his appetite.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
