Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 18th Month old has had blow outs since last Wednesday. Her stool is yellow, mushy and I can see chunks of her food. Before this her stool was hard so I mixed prune juice with apply juice and that softening it up but now she has these blow outs were her stool can leak through her diaper and up her back. She doesn t have a fever, still has an appetite and eats fairly well. She also does not have blood or mucus in her stool. Should I be concerned? It s a week now of mushy, yellow stool that are explosions raging from 1 to 2 times a day.
Noted the history about your 18 month old daughter and understood your concerns. The loose stool can be due to the following reasons: Changed diet and added things like prune juice and so on. Intestinal infection can occur without fever particularly after viral attack. Hence it is best to get a repeated stool test so that one can treat for the infection if it is present. Also give probiotics, bananas and curds. Give plenty of fluids orally to avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Do not give food and beverages that cause such a problem. Consult her Pediatrician to get a proper clinical evaluation and further management.
Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
