What Causes Loss Of Taste And Smell While Suffering From Peripheral Neuropathy?

my mom had a disease called wegeners agramulocytosis. i was told it is not an cndition that is inheireted. she was dx at 59 and died from respiratory failure related to the disease at 64. i remember her saying everything tasted bad or had no taste and she had sores in her nose off and on. i have noticed in the last 6 months i have a drastic loss of taste as well as smell i am 63. i had my sinuses checked w/o problems found. i also suffer from severe neuropathy pain in both my upper and lower ext esp in large muscles as well as heaviness as if i was wearing ten pound weights on my ankles. this started almost 20 yrs ago and i have been evaluated by 2 different neurologists w/o any findings [including eeg and mri] and my gp feels because of family hx as my brother has ms and my mom it is probably autoimmune and tx my sx with medication ANY ADVICE OR IDEAS?

Yes, it is possible to develop neuropathy in Wegener's granulomatosis.

It may be cranial or peripheral nerve involvement. Yes it is possible to develop anosmia or brown nasal discharge in Wagner's disease. But check that weather your the right person to worry or not.

The occurrence of Wegener's granulomatosis among close biologic and non-biologic relatives of patients with Wegener's granulomatosis is low.

So please consult your physician, he will examine and check for p-ANCA and biopsy then treat you accordingly.
