Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my brother in law has not felt well for almost two weeks. the blood work initially showed he might have a blood infection but they re-tested and said it was not that and not lyme desease. he has a low grade fever and a headache. concerned though because he is never sick. he is 61 years old.
Hello The patient is having fever for 2 weeks but blood work is normal . Low grade fever and headache are only symptoms mentioned in the query , so it is very difficult to find out the exact reason merely based on these symptoms . However this type of low grade fever with headache may be due to these possibilities ,these include: 1 Extrapulmonary tuberculosis diagnosis can be confirmed by tuberculin pcr tests. 2 Typhoid fever , as this is most common cause of such symptoms . Diagnosis can be confirmed by Widal test and serology test . 3 Jaundice , as I have noted in many cases that usually jaundice causes such type of symptoms. Diagnosis can be confirmed blood examination for HBASG for A B C E H. However , there are so many other causes of such fever as colon cancer but physical clinical examination as well complete history of illness is important so consult another physician and get his opinion. Good luck.
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Low grade fever with headache could be due to any inflammatory disorder, which could be secondary to low virulence organism infection. 2. Get a complete hemogram, CRP, ESR levels, urine examination for further evaluation. As blood culture has already been done, and is negative, other tests could be helpful. 3. More clinical details, like any cold, earache, pharyngitis, etc and any chronic diseases history along with lab reports necessary for further opinion Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
