What Causes Low Pulse Rate?
Hi, concerned about my dad s pulse which is low today. He is 96 and its been between 40-58. He does not feel dizzy or fatigued. Walks without any problems. Has a doctor s appointment tomorrow which is why I haven t taken him to an emergency room. So far all is calm.

Low pulse rate below 60bpm is termed as bradycardia.Low heart rate can be due to heart block.They result from conduction disturbances.I advice you to have a baseline EKG and a 24 hr holter EKG to accurately determine the etiology .Asymptomatic cases do not need any treatment.Symptomatic cases need implanted cardiac pacemaker.Drugs like isoprenaline can also help to increase the rate.Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
