What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain And Constipation?

My husband recently began experiencing lower abdominal pain, constipation, and soft green stools alternating with diarrhea. Initially, the abdominal pain normally began at about 3:30 in the AM and would last for several hours into the morning, and be intermittent throughout the day. Recently, however, the pain is constant. This is worrisome to us. What s your thought?

Does the pain gets worse after eating?
He needs to be worked up for mesenteric ischemia if his pain is related to meals.
