What Causes Lump Under The Chin?

Hi there. I m 15 years old. I recently found out that if I put my tongue on the roof of my mouth a LARGE lump comes out under my chin. It kind of feels like a muscle. And it only comes out when i put my tounge on the roof of my mouth. Should I be concerned about this?

Hi dear ,

The symptoms you mention in query are probably due to a mucocele or mucous cyst . This occur when a duct of salivary gland duct get blocked due to injury or action like sucking . Treatment is based upon the severity of the mucous cyst. Sometimes cysts may not require treatment and will heal on their own over time. Superficial cysts often resolve spontaneously. If it doesn't go away in few days the consult oral surgeon for proper diagnosis and to rule out condition like tongue sore and herpes . There are treatment options like laser therapy , cryotherapy and intralesional corticosteroid injection . Maintain proper oral hygiene .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
