What Causes Lumps In Vagina After Having Vaginal Delivery?
Hi. I am 28.and about 36 days ago I had vaginal delivery. My baby was about 9 pounds and I had kind of hard VD. The number of stitches was 12 I think. But 2 days ago , I noticed some lumps in my vagina. I could touch them with my finger. I freaked out and I don t know what it is. Is it dangerous? What should I do? Do I need a surgery ? Will they disappear after a while? Thanks
The lumps you feel in the opening of your vagina are likely the knots from the sutures inside the vagina and the swollen vaginal tissue around the stitches.
Depending on what type of suture the doctor used, the stitches may still need a few more weeks to dissolve completely. In addition, the vagina needs a full 8 weeks to heal completely if you had tears at a vaginal delivery.
It is generally advisable to not insert anything inside the vagina until 8 weeks after the delivery or once you have been examined by your doctor.
It may be difficult to believe now, but the vagina heals amazingly well from even difficult deliveries and extensive surgical repair. However, at 36 days it is a little early to fully see healing, and I doubt you will be able to feel the bumps where the sutures were in a few more weeks.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
