Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just went to the doctor today and they sent me to have blood drawn to test for lupus - I was diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis a few years back and am wondering if there is a connection between the two (other than they are both autoimmune diseases)? Are these conditions frequently correlated?
Both SLE and lymphocytic colitis can lead to inflammation of colon. But these both are not interconnected.
The etiology of lymphocytic colitis is not clear.Hyperactive immune response can be cause but not well proven.Treatment for it include NSAIDs and steroid like drugs to reduce inflammation.

What Causes Lymphocytic Colitis?
Hi thanks for asking question. SLE is multisystemic autoimmune disease. It can lead butterfly skin race over face, pleuritis , pericarditis etc along with colitis also. So both these can lead colitis but etilogically not connected. I hope you will understand my concern. Wish you good health.
