What Causes Memory Issues While On Depakote And Seroquel?
I am suddenly experiencing severe memory loss. What happened a day or so ago seems to be like a blank slate. I am female, age 75, drink one glass of wine or beer each evening before or with dinner. I have taken Depakote, Seroquel and Lexapro for bipolar disorder since 2005.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It's hard to really call it SUDDEN unless you may have suffered an unbeknownst stroke while asleep or something to that effect. Taking alcohol of any sort at the same time you take prescription medications (especially the ones you are on) is never a good idea and I wouldn't be surprised if your physician has notified you of the same precautions. One upshot to drinking regularly...no matter how little the amount one believes it is involves the long term effects on cognition (memory, executive functions, etc.). I suggest you see a neurologist who can put you through the necessary testing to see whether or not you are suffering from the long term ill effects of alcohol as well as the combination of alcohol with prescription medications vs. silent stroke which if present may be hiding out in your temporal lobes. An MRI of the brain may uncover that event if this happened recently.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
