Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 82 years old and today is having difficulty saying or remembering certain words. She is aware of it. She just finished several weeks of intense work and planning for a wedding held at her house so she is very, very tired. We don t know if she is just tired adn this is normal or if she needs to go to a hospital. She does not feel she needs any treatment.
I hear that you have concerns about your mother and recent changes in her memory. It sounds like she is under tremendous amount of stress from recent events. This type of stress can cause memory issues but if her memory doesn't improve it maybe significant. Of course trying to convince your mother to seek attention will be a difficult hurdle. I don't believe she needs to be seen in the ER but her family doctor can help diagnose and monitor her course. I would recommend seeing her family doctor and may even need a neurologist to help wife her diagnosis. To help her doctor I would recommend you accompany her to the visit if she agrees.
