What Causes Menstrual Cramps And Spotting While On Depo Provera?
Hi, I am 51 and have been on Depo-Provera for 16 years. I have not been menstruating at all and it has been wonderful. However, over the past year, I have occasionally had severe menstrual cramps and some light spotting. I was sent for an ultra sound which showed cysts on my ovaries, but no other problems. My doctor said not to worry about it. Should I stop taking Depo? I am afraid if I stop, I will have regular periods again and even more cramps on a monthly basis. So far its only happened 3 times over the past year.

Depo provera being a high dose hormone preparation & having effect of prolonged protection for 3 months.. it tends to cause irregular spotting, irregular or no period over a long time. Please don't worry, it' s side effect of the drug.
So you need not stop depo provera ..
