What Causes Metal Like Smell From Hairs?

I noticed yesterday that my hair smells of metal. I am on an antibiotic for a sinus infection (clarithromycin). it seems to increase when i sweat. my husband said he can t smell it. i was also visiting relatives in a town where there has been an issue with metallic tasting/smelling water. But, I didn t notice it until yesterday.

Hello,

I can understand your concern for the metal like smell from hairs. After analyzing your query with best diligence I can get that you are on clarithromycin antibiotic for sinus infection.
It is quite unusual to find metal like smell form hair after taking the clarithromycin antibiotic but can occur in some persons due to varied metabolism of the drug. I suggest you to drink plenty of water daily to flush the extra drug by urinary system. By this means the drug will least be secreted in the sweat and the hair will have least of this smell. If at all you find more problems then can talk to your treating doctor and report this problem to take further guidance about the antibiotic.
