Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother in law had a massive stroke and continues to have mini strokes. They have already told us there is nothing they can do for her and have moved her to a nursing facility with hospice. She has not eaten or had anything to drink for 4 days but continues to pee. She is on Morphine and Valium to keep her comfortable. How can she urinate if she is not eating or drinking anything. Her medication is given in liquid form under her tongue. How long can she go like this and how is she still urinating with no food or drink?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist, Niraj Modi's Response
Here we need to check her report properly why she has got stroke and what is present medical situation. And then only I can answer you properly. But from your explanation I realise since she is not able to swallow she might be not eating or drinking any thing. In this can she can be kept on Nash gastric tube from nose for feeding purpose to solve your issue. And do take proper care later for this tube too. It has to be changed every 3weeks. Once she improves do start physical therapy regularly to improve her functional ability further. Hope it was useful for you. Take Care.
