What Causes Mucosal Thickening In The Base Of Each Frontal Sinus?

can you please explain the following:There is mucosal thickening in the base of each frontal sinus more marked on the right side than the left. There is mucosal thickening with polyp formation in both maxillary antra. Both maxillary ostia are occluded due to mucosal thickening. There is complete opacification of both sides of the sphenoid sinus. There is virtually complete opacification of the ethmoid air cells on both sides with thinning of the bony septa. The fronto- ethmoidal recess on both sides is markedly narrowed due to mucosal thickening. There is concha bullosa of the middle turbinates and there is mucosal thickening in the air cells in the middle turbinates. Both middle meati are narrowed due to mucosal thickening. There is a polyp in the left nasal cavity extending in to the nasopharynx posteriorly. This appears to arise from the middle turbinate.

Hi.
You have posted the whole CT scan report.
The findings are suggestive that you are suffering from allergic rhinitis causing the changes as seen in the scan.
I would advise in such a case the following:
- First off all the tests of the blood for CBC, eosinophilia, sugar as I have to give steroids.
- Clinical assessment by endoscopy to correlate the CT findings with actual picture.
- Explained the nature of the disease which is recurrent, I would start you on the following treatment,
* Antihistamine
Oral steroids in tapering dose
Intra-nasal steroid sprays
Multivitamin as anti-oxidant.

Give all this for three weeks.
In most of hte cases the next review CT scan will be clear.
IF something remains behind, surgery can be planned, otherwise will not be needed.
You will have complete relief.
