Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Mucus Discharge From Rectum, Stool And Chronic Diarrhea Along With Cramps?
I had a large amount of mucus discharge from my rectum not in my stool. Just urinating. Now I have cramps and narrow stool after much straining with little results. And I notice mucus now in my stool. This has been nearly a week following a year of almost daily diarrhea. Should I be concerned?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of daily diarrhea for almost a year, large amount of only mucus from anus, followed by small stool with mucus for the last week. All these are suggestive of a colonic pathology which needs proper clinical evaluation and investigations for a proper plan of treatment. I would advise you the following: Stool tests for 3 consecutive days. Routine tests of blood, urine, stool. Blood CEA and other tumor markers. CT scan of the whole abdomen. Colonoscopy and biopsy. All these things will get us the proper diagnosis and a plan for proper treatment.
