What Causes Mucus Discharge While Spitting?

Why do I spit up mucous every time I use my inhaler for Asthma? It is miserable and I spit up morning and night at the use of the inhaler. Why, I have never smoked, but did live with a smoker for 7 years, but I am now 61 and haven t been around it for years. I am upset with choking and spitting up of mucous.

Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Mucus production in asthma patient can be due to
1. Infection
2. Poor control of asthma (lung inflammation and irritation)
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Chest x ray to rule out lung infection.
2. PFT (pulmonary function test) to rule out worsening of underlying asthma.
If infection is present than you may need antibiotics.
If worsening of asthma is there than you may need additional inhaler or increasing dose of pre existing inhaler.
So better to consult pulmonologist and discuss all these and start treatment accordingly.
