What Causes Mucus In Diarrhea Post Treatment For C.difficile Infection?

I have had GI symptoms for about 6 months and been treated with multiple antibiotics, the last one was a month ago, Flagyl for C. diff. Most of the time I had mucus in my diarrhea and a horrible taste/smell - that I swear I also smelled in my urine. After the Flagyl I got a thrush infection and was on a anti fungal for 10 days. At that time the taste/smell and mucus in my stool finally went away. Now the taste/smell is coming back as is the mucus. I do not wish to restart antibiotics if it is not necessary, I do not mind letting my GI tract find it s own way back to being a stable environment. But I am concerned that there is some underlying situation that is causing all these infections. I am wondering if maybe I should see a Gi specialist?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Surely yes, recurrent GI problems should be consulted with a GI Doctor called Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, examination and proper investigations to get an exact cause thus making it possible to have proper curative management.
Tests of stool for three consecutive days.
Tests of blood and urine.
CT scan of abdomen to rule out any diverticulitis or cancer.
Colonoscopy and biopsy.
Any other tests as may be needed to get an exact cause and thus getting a proper plan of management.
The reports will decide whether you need an additional medications and if yes, which ones.
Also identify the factors, foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems and thus avoid these altogether.
