Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has had 2 Spinal Stenosis surgeries- Spinal Lumbar Surgeries- now in a hospital bed in our home-- he takes 2 (600) mg Gabapentin every 4-6 hours for nerve pain, can barely walk 10 steps on the walker- for the past 3 days he has had a clear mucussy stool----weird, yet he has been eating well prepared food and has a good appetite- what is going on here?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* The mucus in stool is due to alteration in gut flora via side effect of Gabapentin.
* I recommend to add probiotic with Lactobacillus content to combat the issue.
Regards.
